How car rental in Dubai really works: fleet, deposits, delivery

We built the company around a simple idea: a rental should feel like borrowing a car from a friend who happens to be organized. That means the vehicle arrives washed, fueled, and on time. It means somebody answers the phone at eleven at night when a client cannot find the parking entrance. And it means we tell you about fuel policy and fines before you sign, not after.

What sits in our garage right now

Our fleet is deliberately mixed, because the people who write to us want very different things. A family arriving for two weeks needs seven seats and cold air conditioning. A couple celebrating an anniversary wants the roof down along the coastal road at sunset. Someone relocating for a six-month contract just wants something reliable and cheap enough to forget about.

So we keep all three groups in mind:

• Economy and compact models - Chevrolet Groove, Hyundai Santa Fe, KIA Carnival LX, Nissan Pathfinder SL. Low fuel consumption, easy parking, daily rates starting around 135 AED.

• Business and premium sedans - BMW 120i M Sport, Mercedes-Benz A250 AMG, Mercedes-Benz CLA 35 AMG Coupe. Comfortable enough for client meetings, not so flashy that they feel like a costume.

• Convertibles and sports cars - Ford Mustang, Ford Mustang Shelby Kit, BMW 430i Convertible, Mercedes-Benz C300 Convertible, Porsche 911 Carrera. Winter months are the best season for these, when evenings cool down and the open roof finally makes sense.

• SUVs for desert runs and mountain trips - Lexus NX 250, Mercedes-Benz GLC200 Coupe. Hatta, Jebel Jais, and the Rub' al Khali dunes are all within a comfortable morning drive.

Where we deliver, and why location matters more than you think

The city is enormous, and traffic patterns change everything about how a day feels. Living near the waterfront towers, for example, means underground parking, valet zones, and a lot of one-way loops. The choice of vehicle is usually determined more by the neighborhood you live in than by your budget. Narrow ramps and multi-level garages in high-rise buildings are ideal for smaller cars and those with a tight turning radius. In residential communities located further from the center, with wide driveways and long stretches of highway, a larger vehicle is a much more practical option. Tell us your address and the length of your stay, and we'll suggest two or three models that really suit your needs, rather than just lugging around whatever's available. Our staff drives these roads daily, and this information costs you nothing.

A quick word about the airport, since roughly a third of our bookings start there. Send us your passport and license copies in advance and the handover takes ten minutes instead of thirty. On the way back, give yourself forty minutes before check-in - we inspect the car together, sign off, and you walk to the terminal without rushing.

The rules nobody reads until it is too late

Local traffic enforcement is strict and automated, and this catches visitors off guard more than anything else. Speed cameras are everywhere. City limits generally sit between 60 and 80 km/h, highways go up to 120. Fines appear in the system within hours, and yes, they reach us, which is why we settle them with clients at return.

Drinking and driving carries zero tolerance - not a low threshold, zero. Penalties begin near 20,000 AED and can include detention. If you have booked something premium for an evening event, arrange a designated driver before you leave. We would rather lose a booking than see a client in serious trouble.

Other practical points worth memorizing:

• Seat belts for every passenger, front and back. The fine runs around 400 AED.

• Children under ten cannot sit in the front. Ask us for a child seat when you book - it is free and we will fit it before delivery.

• Paid parking zones are marked with colored lines, the RTA app handles payment. Improper parking can end with the car being towed, even in neighborhoods where empty spaces look abundant.

• Return the car with the same fuel level you received. Smoking inside or returning it filthy adds charges, and wheel scratches are billed at cost.

None of this is intended to intimidate anyone. The roads here are excellent, the road signs are clear, and driving is a real pleasure once you’ve mastered the basic rules.

Documents are straightforward. Visitors need a passport, a home driving license, and an International Driving Permit. Residents need a local license plus an Emirates ID or residency visa. Minimum age is 21 across the whole fleet. Deposits are where we differ from most competitors: we run no-deposit and low-deposit programs on a large part of our lineup, so nothing large gets frozen on your card for the duration of your stay. Several clients have told us this was the reason they chose us, which tells you how common the opposite practice is.

Pricing follows a predictable structure. A one-day rental has the highest daily rate, the cost per day is lower for a weekly rental, while a monthly rental offers the best value. Monthly rates include maintenance, tire replacement, and insurance, making them a genuine alternative to buying a car if you are staying for the season or are here on a work contract. Additionally, long-term customers benefit from a flexible monthly payment system rather than having to pay a large lump sum upfront.

We are not going to pretend renting is right for everyone. If you are here for two days and staying near a metro station, the train will serve you fine. But the moment you want to see Abu Dhabi's mosque in the morning and the Hatta reservoir in the afternoon, or drive out to Fujairah's beaches for a swim, public transport stops being an option and taxis become expensive fast.
